Sketches from my 2003 France Excursion
Last Thursday, 12 April 2012, I gave another architectural excursion talk to my young associates at LWK Shenzhen office.
The excursion took place in 2003 with visits to eight French cities that included 28 architectural sites. It started in Southern France at Marseille and continued North through, Nimes, Avignon, Firminy, Lyon, La Tourette, Dijon and finally ending in Paris.
Sketching while taking part in a tour group, one has only few minutes to do a proper sketch, however with determination I did manage to complete many. Here are a few of my sketches with corresponding photographs.
Le Corbusier’s Sainte Marie de La Tourette monastery in a valley near Lyon.
The interior chapel of Sainte Marie de La Tourette.
Santiago Calatrava’s interior entry lobby of the Lyon-Saint Exupery Airport in Lyon.
Le Corbusier’s chapel of Notre Dame du Haut in Ronchamp northeast of Dijon.
The interior view of Ronchamp’s south wall.
Le Corbusier’s Villa La Roche built as a private residence in Paris now operated by the Foundation Le Corbusier and opened to the public 2 days a week.
A few of my other France sketches were previously published in my earlier blogs.
These sketches are great! I love Le Corbusier’s work, and you did it well!
