Sketching Journey Tips: Part 2

September 24, 2009

The Process

First set up the “frame” of what you intend to sketch and relate that frame to the scale of your sketchbook. This frame will be either portrait or landscape in shape; that is, you will use either a single or a double page Next, quickly decide if your sketch will be a one-point (see Beaux-Arts interiors) or two-point perspective. Your eye level is the horizon line of your sketch. Note this somewhere in your frame. The horizon will help to set up the vanishing points and allow you to visualize the foreground, middle ground, and background in your sketch.
